The Family Menagerie!

A little Romance, a little Stardust.

So Ash and I got to talking today about how we seem to be stuck in a rut. I guess that’ll happen when you’re living with family and have little time to actually act like a couple. A lot of the time it just feels like we’re just two people sharing a room who occasionally say hi to one another. I told her today that I miss her. I see her everyday but I miss her. And she asked me what we should do about it. So that got me to thinking. For one, I’m limiting my office-time and even posted an actual time schedule of when I should work on design stuff (Monday-Thursday: 10-6, Friday: 11-5, Sat/Sun off). I also want to just do more things with her. So from now on, I’m gonna make sure we have TV/Cuddle time before bed since we had started getting in the habit of falling asleep at different times. We used to just talk ourselves to sleep about different topics, and now we never even talk. I’m going to fix this.

I’m also looking into the different state parks around here because it’s Spring and warmer now and I want to get us out of the house and walking more. We do that around the lake, but walking in woods is better than walking on a road. And once I get paid, I want to go take her out to see a movie or dinner – you know, the cliche date scene. It’s fun though.

That leads me to a question for my readers. What sorts of romantic things do you and your significant other do to keep the love alive? What kinds of things do you talk about or go out and do? What keeps things interesting and together when work and family and other things bog you down? How do you stay in love and not just have it fade to love? Any suggestions are more than welcome. I’m still happily in love, but I would love to just get out of this boring day-to-day routine Ash and I have found ourselves in. I want to spice things up and make her laugh and smile like old times (it’s been almost two years that we’ve been together – not long, I know, but long for me).

So, anyone have any good (and preferably cheap) ideas for two star-crossed kids in a small town who just want a little more romance in their lives?

Andrew (fiance) and I draw romantic events out of a cup every two weeks. At some point earlier in the year, we both wrote down ten events, each, and didn’t show them to each other. Then we cut them out, folded them and put them in a cup. We’ve written simple things, like going out and doing small stuff, going place together, etc. If you two don’t have many good ideas, maybe find a book of them; Amazon reviews should lead you down the right path as to which one would be helpful.

You could always play paintball together. :B

Work together on something. Nothing makes me feel more connected to a partner than when I can see our combined work growing into something that’s bigger than both of us — whether that’s a walk, where we go out into the woods and each of us is able to see something that the other one would have missed, or even something as simple as bouncing ideas back and forth off of each other to make something better than you could have alone. Cuddling and relaxing together are important, and when you’ve had a long day, it’s so tempting to want to just kick back with your lover and not do anything — but that’s the easiest way for things to become boring and awful and sterile. Work together and acheive something together, and your love will grow, and you will love each other more as you empower each other and build each other up into stronger, better people.

I’m also told that puppies help. ;D
