NewBird2 Release!

Okay, so it’s not completely done yet. I still have to fix up the horrible typography on my sidebar, my extras page isn’t up yet, and there are quite a few things in the coding that I need to fix up. But I’m sick of working on it and I won’t have time tomorrow for the most part, so I’m putting up my updated design now (called NewBird2).

Let me know what you think. Is it an improvement of the last design? Are the changes positive or negative? What do you wish I had done differently? And of course what do you like about it?

I’ll finish up the small, unfinished bits later. Right now, I’m exhausted and only have about four hours to sleep before I have to wake up in the morning and head over to the Wellness Clinic with Ash and the pups to get them updated on their shots.

There’s an ant crawling on my keyboard. I can’t get away from them.

Good night.

I like this a lot better. The sidebar is much more readable than it was and it feels a bit more like part of the design. The vines in the footer that wrap around the bottom look a little disjointed — maybe pairing them with some sort of transparency effect would make it feel more like a continuous branch wrapping along the bottom?

I totally love your little coyote icon, but he feels a little out of place in this world of scribbley photoshop when he’s so smoothly constructed. Maybe going over him with a tablet and creating a scribblier version of him would make him feel more like he belongs in this garden …

I definitely think that the green borders under the top links are a giant improvement over the grassy scribbles in the last version — and I love the title font you’re using, it fits into the design really well, but still feels elegant, and is easy on the eyes.

I’m not sure how well the light browns integrate onto the light green. The red part of the color really pops, giving it a more Christmassey look than is perhaps appropriate — a green or blue would probably work much better.

The footer on this one is a thousand times better. Leaving it to stand out like that makes the colors pop like crazy and it’s a super appealing design element.

So, um, overall, I like. 😀

Leigh: For the vines, do you mean have it be one long vine so you can actually see it connected, only have the part that goes behind the white to be transparent?

I agree with you on the coyote – I’ll see what I can do. I’m confused by what light brown you mean – the text links at the top or the color in the whole design? Where are you referring to?

I’m definitely happier with my footer. I’m glad you like it!

And, of course, that may not work at ALL. >___________>

Nice redesign Nik! I’ve always liked that tree… how you drew the roots and all. That plane with the RSS feed looks cute too. Good job! 🙂
