The Family Menagerie!
    Cast of Characters

Interested in some of the names you see come up in my blog? Well here are a few faces to put to the names. Get to know my ever-growing family and kids!

Ash My Ash Tree
The Love of my Life. Ash is my roommate, my best friend, and, well, my “special friend,” as the joke goes. I honestly do not know where I would be without her. She has been with me through so much, and we’ve definitely had our ups and downs, but we’re both tough and we’ve pushed through. We’re good for each other, and I know I never want to be without her. She’s my hero.

Spunky Spunky
Spunky is our incredibly furry four-year-old husky mix. He is a great cuddler, but has absolutely horrid breath. And he thinks he’s absolutely tiny. He’s not. He’s a big teddy bear. He sheds enough hair every day to seriously knit a quilt. It’s unbelievable. He loves walks, and runs, and just being outside and moving. He’s also quite comical and he gives us a lot of laughs.

Zane Zane
Zane is a beautiful black cat with golden eyes. He’s a little bit on the bigger side (and definitely eats more than his fair share of food), but he’s gentle and would never hurt a fly (or one of his smaller siblings). He’s good at keeping you company, even if he is a bit of a scaredy-cat. If he’s not under the bed, he’s on top, hogging all the pillows.

Akima Akima
Oh Akima! She’s our pretty gray kitten with gorgeous green eyes. She’s the daintiest thing in the world (though her litter box would beg to differ), and she knows she’s the queen of the room – our Pretty Pretty Princess. She’s one of those rare cats who will come running when you’re not feeling the best. She’s great at licking away tears and all your worries.

Merlin Merlin
Merlin is our newest kitten, and holy crap, he’s insane. He’s actually Spunky’s cat – he follows Spunky everywhere and think himself a dog. He runs to the door with Spunky, sleeps with him, cleans him, and I swear, if he could, he would bark just like Spunky. It’s really funny. He’s definitely got a spirit to him, and as much as we get annoyed by him, we love him.

Drake Drake Trouble
Drake is the first of the three ferrets simply known as “The Boys.” Drake is incredibly intelligent and as such, gets into a ton of trouble (hence his name). He’s always the first to find a way out of their cage, and also the first one to find a way into the garbage can. He tends to be the ringleader of sorts and likes to wake his brothers up for a wild romp.

Nate Nate
Nate is the youngest of the ferret brothers, and definitely the delinquent of the bunch. He likes to chase the cats and raise hell with plastic bags and boxes, and, while he knows his name, will rarely listen to it. He gets time-outs a lot for dumping his food, and likes to test his limits with us to see how far he can go without getting into trouble.

Morgan Morgan
Morgan, along with her sister, were Valentine’s Day presents for me from my Ash. Morgan was named after the female pirate in Cutthroat Island because, like her, she has a white mark down her face that looks like a scar. She’s a little bigger than her sister, but she’s more shy and skittish. She’s a beautiful addition to the family.

Meetu Meetu
Our little Meetu. She was gotten at the same place as Morgan so we’re pretty positive they’re half-sisters, though Meetu appears to have a little Dumbo in her (her ears are so much bigger than her head!). This little one was named because when we first got her, she followed Morgan everywhere, as if she were saying, “Me too! Me too!” She’s a lot more outgoing than her bigger sister.

Chunky Chunky
Chunky was a rescue rat – some people were selling him as rat food, and Ash had a huge heart when it comes to stuff like that and we ended up coming home with him. He’s gigantic – one of the biggest rats I’ve ever seen. We started calling him Chunky as a joke, but so far, it has stuck. Poor guy. He’s still pretty skittish but he’s a cute little foster rat.

Galileo Galileo
One of the newest member of our family is our beautiful red and purple betta, Galileo. I bought him for Ash one day because she saw him and desperately wanted to save him from his tiny little bowl. He now resides in much bigger tank and seems much happier with us. I’m really glad Ash found him, he fits right in with us. And he’s gorgeous.

Aristotle Aristotle
Our second betta, Aristotle. We saw him and instantly fell in love with his coloration. He doesn’t fan out as much as Galileo, but he definitely looks and acts a lot healthier since we bought him home from the tiny cup he lived in before us. He’s a gorgeous fish and a perfect brother to our Aristotle. The two of them are a perfect pair of fish for our family.

Kendi Kendi
Kendi’s beautiful gold colors were what caught my eye at the pet store, and Ash was the one who talked me into getting her after having dreams of her the night after. Her name means “Loved One” in African, and it most definitely fits. She can usually be found in her favorite mac and cheese box, or curled up against the warm wall of her hut.

Sahara Sahara
One of two of Ash’s leopard geckos, her pride and joy. They currently aren’t with us since they’re at her dad’s in Texas, but we hope to bring them back to us soon. Sahara is a little more outgoing than her cage-mate, but the two of them are still pretty shy. Sahara is a bit darker, too, but absolutely beautiful with a fierce spirit.

Phoebe Phoebe
Phoebe, like her sister, is a leopard gecko. She’s lighter in color than Sahara, but still a beauty. She’s more reserved, as well, but most leopard geckos are, so it’s okay. She likes to sun herself in the warm light of the sun, and even though they both look to us for crickets and other yummy delicacies, they’ve still got incredibly independent minds.
