365 Days of Animal Advocacy (& Life)!

I know it’s been awhile, but life has been pretty much insane. So much so I’m not quite sure I can call it a life. Doesn’t life include sleep? Don’t think I haven’t been blogging. I blog every single day but it hasn’t been here. Over at I Love Rescue Animals, Ash and I have taken on an epic year-long challenge: to showcase a different rescue, shelter, or other animal welfare organization every single day this year. It’s called the 365 Days of Animal Advocacy project and if we’re not blogging or taking pictures, we’re emailing organizations and spreading the word pretty much every second of the day (when we’re not at work).

Regardless of how time consuming it is, the project has already proved incredibly worth it. We have already gotten in touch with some fantastic organizations and the amount of positive feedback we’ve gotten has been wonderful. Want to know more about it? Check out the last five posts we’ve done:

Please take a moment to read more and find out how you can help this project. We would love to hear from your local shelter and share your story. And don’t worry – I’m getting back into the blogging habit and I’ll be back here soon.

And Now For a Short Break!

BREAK! I shall be scarce from the web this week as I prepare for BlogPaws 2010 West, a conference that has all to do with pet bloggers and celebrating the love for our furry friends. This is the second conference and this time I will doing a presentation about some tips and tricks for basic WordPress design. I’ll make sure to make it available after the conference. Ash and I are representing I Love Rescue Animals and will be gone from Thursday to Sunday to beautiful Denver, CO. Until then, we’ll be running around trying to get everything done and prepared in time for us to make our flight. We’ll get back on the normal blogging schedule on Monday. Be well, all!

Updated 9/16/10: We made it back from Colorado safe and sound, but the BlogPaws buzz has not died (and I have not had a chance to catch up on blogging here). I will write about it here next week after my life gets back to normal (and I catch up on emails and projects), but for now, please head over to the I Love Rescue Animals blog and read about our journey and all the people we met. It was incredible. Thank you to all who support our group and our mission!

Blog of the Week/Month/Whatever

Wow, a post on the weekend you say? She must be mad! Yes, yes, I’m mad. I’m also bored out of my mind and sick of looking at duplexes online (with the amount of houses I spent snooping around today in the unbearably sweltering heat of the Texan sun, I am completely surprised I wasn’t either 1: arrested as a potential serial cat burglar, or 2: shoveled off the pavement in the form of a melted pile of sizzling egg-goop (what a great description, huh?) – either of those were open options). Anyway, have a blog post.

As some of you may have noticed, I am a blogger. Therefore, I love to read blogs too (crazy, huh?). So because I enjoy sharing the happy little nuggets of good reads (and I haven’t done it in quite awhile), I thought I’d throw another blog at you to add to your feed reader.

Run Jen Run

Not only is Jenny a witty writer, but she’s a fantastic photographer, and a wonderful client to work with. She was one of my first (and still one of my favorite) blog clients to work with professionally and her feedback was fantastic as well. Anyway, as a blogger, she is charming, intelligent, and downright hilarious at times. I love her Photobooth Chronicles the best – who knew you could say so much in just four small pictures.

Jenny is also the founder of the ever-growing TequilaCon, which is something I hope to attend next year depending on where they decide to hold it (hey, idea! Austin? Seriously, I’m totally throwing it in the ring here, guys). Tattoos, tequila, and bloggers? There really is nothing better.

Anyway, check out Jenny and all of her awesome photos, blogs, and tequila love over at her snazzy blog Run Jen Run. You won’t be sorry you did (but you will be sorry if you don’t – just saying).

NewBird2 Release!

Okay, so it’s not completely done yet. I still have to fix up the horrible typography on my sidebar, my extras page isn’t up yet, and there are quite a few things in the coding that I need to fix up. But I’m sick of working on it and I won’t have time tomorrow for the most part, so I’m putting up my updated design now (called NewBird2).

Let me know what you think. Is it an improvement of the last design? Are the changes positive or negative? What do you wish I had done differently? And of course what do you like about it?

I’ll finish up the small, unfinished bits later. Right now, I’m exhausted and only have about four hours to sleep before I have to wake up in the morning and head over to the Wellness Clinic with Ash and the pups to get them updated on their shots.

There’s an ant crawling on my keyboard. I can’t get away from them.

Good night.

New Snailbird Design!

And we’re live! The brand-spanking new, took-way-too-long-to-code, Snailbird design is finally up and running!

I don’t think I have ever spent so long in one sitting (or series of sittings as it where) working on one design before. I have been staring at this thing for days on end. I’m not even kidding, all I ate today was a couple of shortbread cookies because I didn’t want to stop until I finally had this kicked in the butt. I think I successfully pummeled it into submission (and fixed up some of my pages while I was at it).

Do I need a reason for the change? Well one, I wanted this site to show off my creative design talents as much as possible. I want the design to show what I’m capable of, both in coding and in creating original and unique designs. And two, I wanted a design to reflect my own personality, and while the last one retained some of my identity, I thought it was boring. I am a colorful person, I love to draw, and I love nature and all things related. This is me.

Plus, I just think it’s cute. Isn’t that what’s important in the long run? Cuteness? Okay, maybe not, but I’m happy with it. Got comments, critiques, praise, complaints? Let me know. I’d love to get some feedback on this design. Does it work for you? Too much? Tell me!

My eyes and fingers need a rest. I’m taking the rest of the night off. Have a good weekend all!

I’m Loved!

I Love Your Blog Aw, so I got tagged for this meme by Amanda who I recently made friends with through NaBloPoMo. She apparently likes my blog so much she thought I deserved this little badge-thingy. I feel special.

Here are the rules as I see them: Answer the following questions with one word only (I almost forgot that part), then tag five other blogs who you feel are awesome and deserve some form of recognition. 02. Leigh Jaszlics
03. Meg Smitherman
04. Mac Case
05. Jennifer of Tropical Fruit

That was actually kind of hard narrowing it down, but I think I did a good job. If I tagged you, don’t forget to post the “I Love Your Blog” badge in your blog. You deserve it – why? Because I love Your Blog. That’s right.

Ash just wandered out here with no pants on. I gotta go.

Corruption, Knitting, Pygmy Hippos.

I’m exhausted but I got a design done for a friend of mine who’s starting up a fashion blog and now I’m working on putting together a blog for Ash (I’ve corrupted her – bwahahaha!). I need to finish up some of the freebie themes I have in the works too and I want to get enough together where I can actually start up a little shop.

Other than that, I’ve been knitting like a fiend, but I think that comes with being sick. Sick also means not being able to taste and feeling like someone is constantly squeezing my eyeballs out of their sockets – way too much pressure to cope so I’ve been snapping like a cocker spaniel at absolutely anything and I honestly don’t know how Ash lives with me some days. Thank goodness she thinks I’m cute.

In other news, I’m behind the times, but…

Monifa

Baby Pygmy hippo, anyone? Seriously, can you get any cuter? Tiniest hippo ever. She’s like a little Wilbur, only cuter.

Oh, and before I forget, go check out Kat’s last giveaway contest. It ends tomorrow so you might want to run over and check it out. I’m sorry I didn’t post a link earlier since she’s been doing them all week, but at least I caught the last one. Go check it out!

Right. Off to do… something.
